Many people now prove their immigration status through an online eVisa account.
What a share code is
A share code is a short code that lets someone check your status for a set purpose, such as right to work or right to rent. It lasts for a limited time.
How to use it
- Sign in to the service on gov.uk with your account.
- Choose the purpose of the check.
- Give the code and your date of birth to the person checking.
Common mistakes
- Sending a code meant for work to a landlord, or the other way round.
- Waiting until the day before a start date.
- Not updating passport details after renewal.
If your account shows an error, use the contact options on gov.uk and tell your university.
