Graduate route

What the Graduate visa allows

Work, job search and self-employment, with the limits that apply.

By Priyanshu Goyal · 25 Aug 2026 · 1 min read · checked 22 Oct 2026

Gov.uk lists what Graduate leave permits.

You can

  • Work in most jobs, at any skill level.
  • Look for work.
  • Be self-employed.

You cannot

  • Extend the visa.
  • Claim public funds.
  • Work in some roles, such as professional sports.

What it does not do

Graduate leave does not on its own lead to settlement. Many people switch to another route, such as Skilled Worker, if they qualify.
